Swarovski- Aiming for the Stars

Wednesday May 26, 2010 at 18:30

Have you noticed how Swarovski seems to be everywhere recently, and in all the right places. This can be attributed to a repositioning of Swarovski from a maker of cute, collectable crystal figureens into a creator of highly desirable luxury crystal jewellery and fashion accessories. FCC has the pleasure to welcome the president of Swarovski Japan, Mr Francis Belin, to share with us how Swarovski has moved from it’s previous brand position to where it is today and where it is going in the future. We will have the privilege to hear about a retail success in Japan at a time when consumers are watching every Yen they spend.
Swarovski’s growth was started by Daniel Swarovski whose father was a glass cutter and owner of a small glass factory in Austria. In 1892 Daniel patented an electric cutting machine that facilitated the production of crystal glass.  The Swarovski Crystal range includes crystal sculptures and minitures jewellery and couture, as well as home decor and chandeliers.

Swarovski’s figurines are highly collectible, with a famous stylized mouse, the Silver Crystal Mouse, being the very first figurine created back in 1976 for the Innsbruck Winter Olympics. A smaller version of this mouse is still sold today.

The company remains a family run business with the fourth and fifth generations in management and on the board.

Our guest speaker, Francis Belin, President, Swarovski Japan, is French and has been in charge of Japan since January 2008. Prior to his current position Francis lead Jaeger-LeCoultre in Japan. Before entering the world of luxury, he started his career as a management consultant at the prestigious consulting firm McKinsey&Co. With a degree in management and philosophy he has a deep understanding of management and consumer desires.

So sign up early for what promises to be a sparkling presentation accompanied by delicious food in elegant surroundings at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
